[rs=2] | Full name: Maddox Gabriel Delaney Position: Camper Code word: Verified by Bee. Height: 6’ even Weight: 162 lbs. Personality: Maddox is a complicated mix of a charismatic, charming lad with a bit too much pragmatism and not nearly enough nonchalance in his demeanor. There’s something oddly magnetic about him- and I say oddly because he isn’t your typical kid with the million dollar smile and the carefree attitude, or even the universal likeability that others have. His is a reserved, calm confidence. He prefers subtle cues to his feelings. A small, barely there grin, or perhaps a muted nuance in his voice to give cue to his mood. Tiny things, but yet there’s still something oddly charming about the collected and confident boy. Maddox is a pragmatist at his core, often trying to consider all possible sides before choosing what (or who) he will be supporting. He tries to see the trajectory that the current course is on, and allow for that trajectory to determine his course of action. Rarely will you see Maddox try and think on the fly; though like any demigod he suffers from ADHD, he tends to try and silence his impulsive nature and think things through, though he isn’t nearly as good at keeping that side of him quiet as he would like to be. Which brings us to the next major point: Maddox is easily persuaded. If one of his friends gives a decent enough answer or appeals to him, it doesn’t take too much to get him on board with whatever plan is currently being hatched, and though he may later on regret it, it won’t stop him from doing it again if he is appealed to. For this reason, he has been on a few different quests and has also been involved in some things that have gotten him into trouble. It is said that 10% of people are cruel no matter what, and 10% are compassionate no matter what, and everyone else can be persuaded either way; well, when it comes to Maddox, he falls into the compassionate category. For all his brains and ability to see both sides of the coin objectively, the fact remains that he has a very strong moral compass. He is easily able to see through the many shades of gray to what is right and what is wrong, and will often align himself to what is morally and ethically correct, even if his own ambitions or goals would have to suffer in the process. His loyalty to his half-siblings is generally one of the first things many people think of when asked to describe his personality. Whether they are jerks or sweet as pie, Maddox will have their back when push comes to shove, whether it be through genuine love/camaraderie, he will certainly have their back; it could also be argued that since he was raised an only child, he has a natural draw to his half-siblings. When it comes to what he’s like when threatened or on the battlefield- Maddox will drop his calm mask, and this is when people will see a ruthless tactician who shows no mercy, weakness, or quarter to his adversaries. While Maddox isn’t the best fighter even in his own house (that distinction he supposes would go to Jack) But he is no slouch in that area. However, his proficiency with edged weapons is second only to his main weapon, the one that you can’t take away from him or disarm him of- his mind. He’s a master tactician and strategist, combining an ingenuity that would leave most linear thinkers in the dust, and a pragmatism with a cold understanding of war that would make Sun Tzu proud. Maddox doesn’t merely seek victory; when he is on the battlefield he wants to break the opposition, route them, humiliate them, and crush their resolve. He can use his environment to his advantage with terrain advantages, traps, and misdirection to confuse those he would see destroyed, then he will sweep in and crush what’s left of his foe when they’ve been mentally defeated. This all stems from his mother- the Goddess Athena. Where the majority of campers run about showing off their shiny new swordsmanship skills or acting tough while pretending to be that one girl from the books who kills other kids and is somehow considered a hero and not a mass murderer, Maddox has always seen his largest asset as his mind- and what a mind he has. Inquisitive, cunning, and manipulative; He finds it amusing that so many campers believe themselves to be the King and the Queen of the chess board, the most powerful and sought after pieces on the battlefield. Why waste one’s energy with titles, when the person with the real power is the one controlling the little makeshift army, King and Queen included- the one who moves the pieces, and ultimately will be responsible for his own victory, or his own demise. He is a brilliant tactician, using a formidable combination of ingenuity and pragmatism to think his way to victory. Capture the flag? He’s got a plan to confuse and route the opposition. A one on one sparring session? He has a plan going in to win. Immortal parent: Athena Claimed?: Yes Mortal parent: Donell Delaney Other relatives: Children of Athena | Half-siblings (Maternal Side) History: Don Delaney was a brilliant man; a realistic, no-nonsense sort of man who was working for the CIA in their Ascension program- training and creating field agents for covert assignments. Don had done well in his time with the military, and it was his usefulness in getting people through opposing tactics and navigating them to their goal that got him noticed, and eventually brought on as a handler to the new kids who thought being a field agent was no more than running around with big guns and shooting bad guys. It was here that he met the woman who would capture his heart. She was brilliant, beautiful, and showed interest in him as well, even though Don seemed a bit old for her at 38 years old. Still, he fell for her, and he eventually tried to settle down with her and his new son, Maddox. It would seem a match made in heaven with these two, which quickly ended shortly after Maddox’ birth. Donnell, left with a son to raise alone rose to the task gloriously. He was heart-broken, but it is perhaps the same pragmatism that allowed him to swallow his grief for his son. As such, though Maddox was only raised with one parent, he was luckier than many demigods in that he enjoyed his life very much. He was watched by his grandparents while his father went to work, and he spent weekends with his dad at ball games and in general enjoying their life as father and son in the Nation’s Capital- Washington D.C. The only thing Maddox learned from a young age never to question was who his mother was. The look in his father’s eyes when he would ask…. He was used to the no-nonsense logic of his father, and seeing him crack and show some vestige of sadness and grief was enough for the boy to learn to not ask. Then came school, and some unfortunate issues sprang up- being told you were dyslexic with ADHD wasn’t what he considered to be a good thing, but his father stuck by his child, boasting about him anyway. He was inquisitive by nature, wise beyond his years, and a strong proponent of justice for those who did wrong, and It wasn’t long before his father began championing his son more than he had ever done, often commenting on his likeness to his mother; and though Maddox yearned to ask, he never did for knowing what it did to his father. This continued until he was 14 years old. If anybody had ever told him he’d be attacked by a fury, he would have laughed at you and told you that you needed a good dose of Risperidone for your paranoid Schizophrenia; yet it happened. He was heading home from school when it happened, and had it not been for his mind, he would have never made it to camp half-blood. He was able to out-think the creature, maneuver his way through the city in order to lose it, and get the winged beast to fly into livewires near his home, electrocuting the thing, but cutting off the power in his building in the process. He rushed inside to tell his father, and both were surprised when at that moment Athena chose to claim him. The sign of Athena, pointing and leading father and son to the camp, where of course his father couldn’t pass through. It was there, on the edges of the camp; that Maddox heard the story of his mother. He listened intently, scarcely believing it, and yet happy to know why he was the way he was. He hugged the man who meant the world to him, and it was with trepidation that he made his way into the camp. Since his arrival, Maddox has proven to be the spitting image of a child of Athena- using his mother’s talents that he has inherited to surprise and stump his opposition, and has tried to get used to these kids around him who he supposes is his family. He’s grown into a rather capable young man; combining his father’s pragmatism and objectivity with his mother’s tactile knowledge and strategic demeanor with his father’s sense of justice. All in all, he’s still fighting to figure out who he will be as a man, and to just try and make it through the craziness that encompasses the day to day here at Camp. |
